alistar's puppy.

"Maaadi! He's doin' bad things again, tá!" Alistar yelled.

"Oh, lords of light!" Delande growled, as she swept into the room, interrupted in the middle of putting her hair up, in order to stop the determined toddler kicking the wall. "Brenan Mac Lugh, you will stop it!"

He did, in fact, stop kicking the wall, but only to take his fingers out of his mouth and gesture upwards at the shelf with his whole hand--and indeed, his whole body, stretching awkwardly up onto his toes until he lost his balance, and staggered a few steps. "Seh? Seh?"

"Nil hea, you still can't have it--I put it up there just so you can't have it."

"...Seh?"

"Nil hea."

Brenan glowered and then kicked the wall again.

"Leir se, Madi! He cracked it!" Alistar stared.

"Brenan!" Delande gave the offending leg a smack. He regarded her wide-eyed for a moment. Looked at his leg. Looked back at her again, considering. Then he kicked the wall again.

Delande smacked his knee again. "Nil hea."

He stuffed his fingers back into his mouth and considered this as well. Then he raised his foot very slowly, and just touched his toes to the wall.

Delande gave him an indignant look and smacked his knee again, just the same. "Nil hea, Bren."

Brenan considered this some more, thoughtfully drooling around his fingers. Then his eyes narrowed to cresents, the dimples appeared--and he kicked the wall, then giggled expectantly, waiting for the smack.

"Oh, you--" Delande promptly willed a boy to be a puppy. "There. Bad Brenan!"

Brenan the rather large gray puppy stared down at his paws for a beat--and then gave a yip, and went gleefully skidding across the floor, with Alistar in wild pursuit. "Madi! Can I be a puppy too?"

"Nil hea, Aly." Delande said, calmly resuming putting up her hair. Eight minutes before a dog's memory stopped retaining what came before. Plenty of time.

"Can I be a-a-a lagato, then?"

"Nil hea--it's rather important for you to stay a Rivut, Aly."

"Aw! Well can he stay a puppy?"

Delande actually considered that one.

Delande actually considered that one.

*ded* Yeeeah. :D 's tempting, innit.

"VERY."

*giggling* he got better?

This would also be a helpful talent when dealing with children. *considers* It also makes me wonder about Bonnie's child-rearing habits.

Why do I also get the feeling that this was inspired by true-life events? :D

delande just kept getting increasingly creative with bren until apparently lilith scared the ever-living-shit out of him. lady bai also had a bit more success initially. after he settled down a bit, he was fine. and then possibly became a bit hypersensitive to big brother's approval/disapproval.

nooo. my kids tended toward the "...oh crap. run." when i so much as head in their direction with an annoyed expression.

my sister was challenging tho.

Delande actually considered that one.

Two words: HOUSE TRAINING.

*SNORK* yeeeah. i doubt a brenan-puppy would be much better. possibly a brenan pet rock is the answer. =D

Bwahahaha.

It's lucky Miriam wasn't around at that point. . . . . assuming she wasn't.

If she is, even if she doesn't come over to say so, she will be MADE OF RUFFLE.

well, first he ran into a wall called lady bai, and then he had the living hell scared out of him by lilith. suddenly he had a whole new perspective on the world--and delande was clearly the safest and warmest part of it. (as for del, she'd never met a baby who'd been raised in a situation where his will actually trumped an entire household's.)

alistar's adorable. brenan, however, if he was my kid, would never have survived toddlerhood. i'd have drowned him. the image of him as a puppy, tho, is really cute.

he was pretty awful yeah. completely used to having his way and the concept that nothing could hurt him. ....he soon learned differently. >_>;

he makes a great puppy, really. =D

...the significance of the eight minutes is that he won't be turn-back-able after that, yesno?

EDIT: Also, why specifically a puppy? I mean, why does Delande think she picked that form...

i think she's still got some leeway to turn him back, but she's looking at potential lingering-to-permanent damage from that point on, yeah.

hee. nice distinction. she'd likely believe the association is due to tirnanog's hunting hounds having a reputation of being notoriously hard to train, initially. quite devoted, but yeah.
